Yae: Blind Samurai Woman, a female-led samurai action film will have its world premiere at Dances with Films Festival on MON JUN 13 @ 4:45PM at TCL Chinese Theatres - Theater 6.



Directed by Akiko Izumitani and co-written by Izumitani and James ‘Doc’ Mason starring Yuwi Kim, Masa Kanome, and Nobuaki Shimamoto.


Logline: In 18th century Japan, when a blind woman's father is killed by a young samurai avenging his own father's death, she agrees to be escorted to the nearest village.



The film is directed by Akiko Izumitani whose previous works include The Other Side (World premiere at Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, The Best Short at Sacrament Asian American Film Festival) and Silent Shame (The Best Feature film in Beijing Movie Festival, The Best of Show at Accolade competition, etc.) Izumitani was a finalist of the Women of Color Commercial Directing Program (Top 10 out of 100+) in 2020, a semi-finalist of NBC Female Forward (Top 20 out of 1000) in 2018, Sony Directors Program (Top 25 out of 250) in 2017, and 2019, and ABC Director's Program in 2014. Akiko Izumitani was also considered to be an episodic director of AMC’s The Terror Season 2 by Scott Free. Akiko Izumitani was selected as one of the top rising Asian American filmmakers in 2013.



Yae: Blind Samurai Woman is currently looking for investors and partners to expand the short into a limited series.
